About the Workshop

The art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed is called Typography. What used to be the work of typesetters/compositors has now become work of every kind of designer. The Dawn of digital age gave rise to an unconventional and more artistic approach to typeface selection and places emphasis on expressing emotion.

Tamil typography is a form of such typography influenced by tradition and culture. Madrasters is organizing a workshop to teach designers the basics of Tamil Typography. This Workshop will focus from அ to ஃ in Tamil typo. Only limited seats available.

About the Speaker
ArtistSix

Right from my childhood, I was very keen towards art that I always found myself painting signboards, stickers for vehicles and I even learnt stone inscriptions. This eventually led to me and my friend setting up VINOTH ARTS at a very young age.

I completed my Visual Communication degree in Government college of Fine Arts, Chennai. It was during this time that my identity as Artist 6 was created as I had to exhibit my collection of photographs (Paarvaigal 2014) in an exhibit.

Once I graduated, I explored in the vast ocean of art and used to exhibit my works at art galleries during weekends. My life took a huge turn when Black ray creatives approached me for creative works. I was introduced to the world of digital design and social media.

Before I entered zoho, I had worked in two other companies gathering experiences and improving myself. In 2012, I was approached by Jack, founder of Madrasters, who invited me to be a part of this design community. As the first Tamil Speaker in the group, I promoted the mother language in designer community and decided to do Tamil Typography. I dedicated my second tamil typo to Madrasters, the first being typo for AMMA APPA and I had it tattooed on my arm. Tamil typo started trending in 2017 but I moved to the next level of blending English and Tamil words having same meaning.

I feel that teaching tamil typography to fellow designers will be my next step and I welcome young talents who are willing to learn A to Z in tamil typography.
